There are likely to be sex- and sexual orientation-related differences in the underlying biology of neural activity in sexual arousal. In addition, the mutual seductive interaction may be influenced by chemical disruptive substances and various congenital bodily abnormalities. With regard to specifically sexual seduction, the popular concepts of stealth seduction, breadcrumbing and love bombing have been addressed, as well as so-called ghosting and others. Regular prominent use of social media, while offering information for better sexual health, carries relational risks, especially for those most vulnerable to being inappropriately seduced in this or other settings. Psychopathology can influence the seductive activity of the seducer and the seduced. In particular, histrionism has been discussed as a dominant personality trait, involving maladaptive cognitive, experiential, expressive, emotional and behavioural patterns. Problematic disinhibition in interpersonal relationships has also been highlighted. Seduction is not exclusively a cultural or social phenomenon. For linked seduction and romanticism, the importance of the cannabinoid receptor type 2, melanocortin receptor 4, the hormone Kisspeptin and Flibanserin has been suggested. In children and adolescents there may be alterations in sexual function and sexual relations, which should be taken into account in specialised health care practice. Mental disorders, such as compulsive sexual behaviour, are often comorbid with mood and other disorders. Finally, so-called continuous seduction may be the expression of a compulsion, characteristic of certain pathophysiological profiles.
