58 Informaciones Psiquiátricas 2025 - nº 258 ARE DELUSIONS AND/OR REFERENTIALITY ASSOCIATED WITH ABERRANT REWARD PREDICTION ERROR (RPE) SIGNALING? FIDMAG informa The research team from FIDMAG Hermanas Hospitalarias (G15 CIBERSAM-ISCIII), in collaboration with Fundació Hospitalàries Barcelona – Hospital General, Fundació Hospitalàries Sant Boi, Fundació Hospitalàries Martorell, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, University of Cambridge, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Department of Diagnostic Imaging at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS), Department of Personality, Assessment, and Psychological Treatments at the University of Seville and the University of Barcelona, have published a study in Psychological Medicine that explores the link between delusions, referentiality, and reward prediction error (RPE) signaling in schizophrenia. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during a probabilistic monetary reward task, the study reveals that higher levels of delusional and referential symptoms are associated with reduced RPE-related brain activation, adding further knowledge to the so called aberrant salience hypothesis in psychosis research.
