Abstract The Autism Spectrum Disorder Hospitalization Unit of the Hospital Universitari Mútua de Terrassa is a suprasectoral unit where an intensive, global and multidisciplinary therapeutic approach to the child and the family is carried out. Therapeutic objectives are agreed upon that guide the intervention throughout the admission process. It is aimed at children and young people from 3 to 18 years old with a diagnosis of autism with or without intellectual disabilities or with eating difficulties. The unit consists of 10 beds in individual rooms, the average stay is 3 to 6 months, from Monday to Sunday with overnight stays. We work with functional plans, the family is part of the unit and in all cases the children and adolescents have associated comorbidity problems that have not responded to previous treatments. The conception of Autism has changed significantly in recent years thanks to advances in research. The latest version of the international classification of major mental disorders, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-V, DSM-5 and its recent revision DSM-5-TR (APA 2014: 2022), recognizes these progress and includes Autism within neurodevelopmental disorders. In its definition of the diagnostic criteria (ASD) it includes hyper or hypo sensory sensitivity or unusual sensory interest in aspects of the environment. It is said in the latest studies that more than 76% of the ASD population presents some sensory alteration. The Occupational Therapist, with the fundamental objective of improving the autonomy and functionality of people, in the TEA Unit, works from the Sensory Integration approach. It is from this perspective that most of the Unit's Occupational Therapy programs have been created. Keywords: Occupational Therapy. Autism. Sensory integration. Functionality. School. Food.
